SKF Lubrication Systems in the GSE & Aviation Sectors

Prevent downtime with an automatic lubrication system

GSE & Aviation Sectors2026-09-21T13:22:22+00:00

Your turnaround takes minutes. Your lubrication round shouldn’t cost you any.

Nothing sits idle on a platform. A pushback tractor that won’t start, a baggage belt that jams, or a catering truck with a stuck scissor lift doesn’t just put one flight at risk — it puts half a day’s schedule under pressure. SKF and SKF Lincoln lubrication systems deliver the right amount of lubricant while the equipment is working — on chassis, lifting mechanisms, slew rings and conveyor belts. Less wear, less downtime during peak hours, fewer man-hours on airside. Euroquip designs, installs and maintains them throughout the Benelux.

56%

of premature bearing failures are caused by contamination and poor lubrication

More than half of your bearing damage is therefore a lubrication problem, not a bearing problem.

up to 33%

less lubricant consumption

By switching from manual to automatic lubrication. Less grease, precisely dosed, at the right moment.

30 min

per vehicle per maintenance cycle

That’s how long correct manual lubrication of a GSE vehicle takes. For a fleet of eighty units, that’s a full working week — every single cycle.

40–60%

of your maintenance costs stem from poor lubrication

While lubricants themselves account for only 2 to 3% of your operating costs. The ratio between effort and impact is rarely this lopsided.

Why ground handlers and airports in the Benelux work with Euroquip

  • Official SKF partner — direct access to the complete SKF and SKF Lincoln range, technical support and warranty terms.
  • Certified installation of lubrication systems — from system design and line routing to mounting, protected feedthroughs, commissioning and training your technicians.
  • Mobile equipment and fixed installations under one roof — chassis lubrication of GSE, lifting mechanisms, slew rings of passenger boarding bridges, and the lubrication of baggage and cargo installations, all from the same technical team.
  • Retrofit is the rule, not the exception — we fit systems onto equipment that has already been running for years, even when the original documentation is missing.
  • We plan around your operation — installation in the depot or workshop, scheduled between two duty blocks or during the night window, so the installation costs no airside capacity.

Frequently asked questions

Can I send the data to the office automatically?2026-08-25T12:31:24+00:00

Yes, to do this, choose a Millennium 5 or Helper X display and order the corresponding Trackweight Mobile FX30 modem. Together with Ipotweb, you’ll have digital data transmission. Please note: Annual fees apply for the use of Ipotweb, the modem, and the SIM card.

Can I register customers, projects, and vehicles?2026-08-25T12:29:12+00:00

Yes, you can do that! Just make sure to choose the most comprehensive Helper X system in that case. The manual provides step-by-step instructions on how to set this up and save it to the display.

Is training necessary?2026-08-25T12:28:39+00:00

VEI’s weighing systems are very easy to operate. Of course, the more features there are, the more time it may take to get used to them. You can refer to the clear user manual or contact Euroquip for an on-site demonstration or a phone consultation.

How often should a weighing system be recalibrated or re-verified?2026-08-20T09:33:21+00:00

If you use a calibrated invoicing system, an annual legal recalibration is required. For non-calibrated systems, we also recommend an annual calibration to ensure continued accuracy. We perform these inspections for you on a regular basis.

How accurate is a mobile onboard weighing system?2026-08-20T09:32:53+00:00

When calibrated correctly, the deviation is minimal, typically around 1%. With a calibrated weighing system, the accuracy fully complies with the strict legal limits imposed by the FPS Economy / NMi / RDI for commercial invoicing.

Can I link the weighing data directly to my ERP or accounting software?2026-08-20T09:32:20+00:00

Yes. Using IPOTWEB (VEI’s cloud service), you can send all weighing data wirelessly and in real time to a central database at the office. From there, you can easily export the data to your own invoicing or ERP software.

Is the weighing system installed on-site?2026-08-20T09:32:05+00:00

Yes. The installation, adjustment, and calibration of the weighing systems are always performed on-site. We come to your construction site or business premises so that machine downtime is kept to an absolute minimum.

Does a VEI weighing system fit any brand of machine?2026-08-20T09:31:39+00:00

Yes. VEI weighing systems are brand-independent and custom-built. They are compatible with all major brands of wheel loaders, excavators, and cranes, such as Hitachi, Volvo, Caterpillar, Kubota, and Komatsu.

In the ROI model SKF applies to commercial vehicles, they count on at least 95% fewer man-hours spent lubricating, at least 50% fewer repairs and lower replacement costs for wear parts such as kingpins and tie-rod ends — and at least 10% higher vehicle availability. For a ground handler, that last figure is the most important one: availability is exactly what you’re short of during the morning and evening peaks.

Your results depend on fleet composition, the number of lubrication points, usage profile and your current lubrication practice — we map this out during a fleet or installation scan.

Four levels of lubrication:
where does your equipment stand today?

A GSE fleet is rarely homogeneous. A dolly with no power supply of its own needs something different from a de-icer that stands idle eight months a year, and a baggage sorting installation that runs from the first flight to the last needs something different again. SKF builds the four levels modularly. Together with you, Euroquip determines which level pays off fastest.

Level 1 · Basic

Manual lubrication

The right tools for points you deliberately keep manual

  • SKF Lincoln 1882-E — 20 V Li-ion battery grease gun with two-speed gearing: high gear for volume, low gear for pressures up to 690 bar.
  • 1142 / 1151 / 1035 — manual hand grease guns.
  • LAGN 120 — grease nipple kit with 120 conical nipples.

Strengths: low investment, direct control. Defensible for equipment with purely low usage and perfectly accessible points.

Limitations: manual lubrication on the platforms means waiting until the vehicle is free and parked inside the hangar. Over-greasing also puts strain on the seal, causing excess grease to drip onto the platform. On airside, that’s not a cosmetic problem: the extruded grease binds dust and de-icing agent and leads directly to dangerous FOD (Foreign Object Debris).

Level 2 · Consolidation

Semi-automatic lubrication

Bringing thirty lubrication points down to one accessible point

  • SSV / SSVD — (adjustable) progressive divider blocks in a solid block design, up to 350 bar. No rubber seals (weatherproof!).
  • SSVE / SSVC — divider blocks with an integrated emergency grease nipple or cross-porting, for installation in extremely tight frames.
  • VPK — sectional progressive divider block.
  • Armoured, canvas, polyamide, steel lines — custom-made, with protection against road salt, de-icing fluid and platform grime.

What it delivers: your technician no longer needs to crawl under a scissor-lift loader or a heavy tractor to service separate nipples, but lubricates one point on the safe frame beam instead.

Ideal for: dollies and towed equipment with no power supply of their own, seasonal equipment such as de-icers, older equipment, and all points under a lift platform.

Level 3 · Continuous · Most popular for GSE in daily use

Fully automatic lubrication

Lubricating while the equipment is working — not when it finally stands still

  • CLP / PLP/ P203 — electrically driven grease pumps, typically mounted on the frame beam.
  • AECP — cartridge pump for standard 420 ml grease cartridges (ideal for a mixed fleet, every technician uses the same cartridges).
  • MGH / MGA — hydraulically or pneumatically driven pumps for lifting or telescopic equipment.
  • For fixed installations (baggage/cargo): ZPU (for enormous distances), OCL-M / CL-MCU (chain lubrication on conveyor belts).

Why this matters so much in ground handling:

  • Lubrication happens while the bearing is turning, actively flushing out sand, de-icing residue and dirt.
  • The dosing is fixed exactly: no wasted grease, and therefore a real contribution to preventing FOD on the platform.
  • Your technicians no longer need to get under the loader in the cold.
  • For dollies and equipment with no permanent power supply, there’s a vibration-triggered unit (powered off the brake lights), or separate single-point lubricators are fitted.

Level 4 · Data

Connected lubrication (SKF eLube / IoT)

See what your fleet is lubricating, without stepping onto the platform

  • CLP / PLP Smart / P253 Smart — connected grease pumps with operating modes: time-controlled, counter-controlled and progressive cycle-controlled.
  • Datalog controller — system controller with data logging and a Bluetooth connection to the SKF eLube app.
  • CHL-CC / SEL-CC — connectable control cabinets (PROFINET / OPC UA / MODBUS) to fully take over the chain lubrication of your huge baggage system.

What you can do with it:

  • Read fill level, operating status and operating mode without lifting or accessing the equipment.
  • For a de-icer that stands idle from March to October, app monitoring is the difference between a planned intervention in September and a breakdown on the very first night of frost.
  • Start a test lubrication cycle from your phone when returning rented equipment.

Why this is relevant at the airport: A GSE fleet is spread enormously across piers and depots and constantly changes hands between users. The digital logbook proves that lubrication was carried out: the watertight argument for a warranty case or when handing back leased equipment.

Lubrication solutions per equipment type on and around the platform

Ground handling combines two worlds: vehicles running dozens of short, heavy cycles a day, and fixed installations that run continuously from the first flight to the last. Below are the four types Euroquip is asked about most often, with their critical components and the matching SKF setup.

Pushback tractors, baggage tractors and platform vehicles

Why it’s critical: A pushback tractor that fails during the push blocks the gate and puts immediate pressure on the day’s schedule. At the same time, these vehicles deal with high torque at low speed, with the heaviest loads at hard-to-reach locations.

Critical components: kingpins, steering arms, brake cam bushings, cardan shaft bearings, the tow hitch, and — on towbarless tractors — the complete pickup mechanism (cradle, lift arms and clamp cylinders) that absorbs the full nose-gear load with every push.

Indicative number of lubrication points: 15 – 40 per vehicle. (To be validated during the fleet scan.)

Typical setup: Progressive system with a CLP or P203 pump. For a retrofit, the AECP cartridge pump is the fastest and cleanest route. For towbarless mechanisms, the special LGHB 2 grease is used to effortlessly withstand the slow, extreme weight.

High-reach GSE: catering trucks, ambulifts and de-icers

Why it’s critical: This equipment is literally life-critical (it reaches the aircraft door), and de-icers face months of winter idle time, which leads to grease bleeding away and ‘false brinelling’. The lubrication points sit high up and are hard to reach.

Critical components: hinge pins of the scissor lift, mast slide blocks, slew rings (on de-icers and passenger boarding bridges), stabiliser legs, tilt plates.

Indicative number of lubrication points: 20 – 50 per vehicle and 15 – 40 per boarding bridge. (To be validated during the fleet scan.)

Typical setup: MGH hydraulic grease cartridge pump for the body (works directly off the existing oil pressure) or the CLP Smart/P253 Smart line. On idle winter equipment, LGWM 2 prevents false brinelling and pumps beautifully in freezing cold.

Baggage and cargo handling installations

Why it’s critical: A sorting loop with a broken belt backs up within minutes, and the disruption ripples all the way back to the check-in counter. Hundreds of bearing points, kilometres of runs, tunnels you’re only allowed to enter after the last flight — and manual lubrication always falls behind here.

Critical components: drum and return roller bearings, drive stations, tensioning stations, the roller conveyors and the drive chains of carousels.

Indicative number of lubrication points: 30 – 200+ per conveying section (rising to as many as 1,000 points on huge installations). (To be validated during the fleet scan.)

Typical setup: A sectional system with large pumps (P203) and EDL1 booster pumps for the enormous distances, controlled by an SEL-CC or CHL-CC cabinet. Chains (often heavily loaded) are oiled contactlessly or mechanically via SKF OCL-M or the CL-MCU line, to prevent irreversible chain stretch.

Container loading equipment: dollies, loaders, transporters

Why it’s critical: Here you’ll find the most equipment per euro, and the least attention. Dollies have no power supply. A seized turntable on a dolly is enough to strand a heavy ULD. Loaders and transporters are the exact opposite: enormously heavy and indispensable.

Critical components: hinge pins, drive rollers, ULD roller beds, slew rings, dolly turntables and lift chains of the forklift (leaf chains).

Indicative number of lubrication points: 4 – 12 per dolly and 25 – 60 per loader. (To be validated during the fleet scan.)

Typical setup: For dollies (with no power supply), automatic single-point lubricators (TLSD or LAGD) are fitted, or a small system is powered off the brake lights. For loaders, a rugged progressive P203 or CLP pump is mounted.

Do you also work with large oil systems?

Do you use large volumes of oil for hydraulics, gearboxes, or circulation in your processes? Avoid unnecessary oil changes and reuse your industrial oil indefinitely, without any loss of quality.

Lubricants and diagnostic tools for ground handling equipment

A lubrication system is only as good as the lubricant that runs through it. On a platform, that grease has to stay pumpable on a freezing night, hold up on a summer day when the concrete heats up, resist glycol and de-icing salt, and stay exactly where it belongs — because anything that comes off lands on airside. Four choices that make that happen.

SKF LGEP 2 — EP grease for chassis and body

Mineral oil with a lithium soap and ‘Extreme Pressure’ additives, designed to effortlessly absorb continuous heavy shocks on the chassis (up to +110 °C).

Where it excels: The standard grease for pushbacks, tractors, loaders and transporters. It offers excellent mechanical stability and strong corrosion resistance.

SKF LGHB 2 — the slowest, most heavily loaded points

High-viscosity grease with a calcium sulfonate complex, designed for extreme loads and peaks up to 200 °C.

Where it excels: Where the motion is so slow and heavy (slew rings, lift and tilt mechanisms of catering trucks, or the pickup mechanism of towbarless tractors) that a normal lubricating film gets crushed. Also remains hugely pumpable in long lines running across the chassis.

SKF LGWM 2, LGWM 1 & LGWA 2 — for the winter platform

LGWM 2: Prevents the well-known ‘false brinelling’ damage, which occurs when equipment does vibrate but stands idle for months (reserve / summer season) alongside a taxiway. Performs perfectly down to extreme cold.

LGWM 1: Low-consistency grease, which absolutely does not stiffen in the lines during severe frost (-30°C).

LGWA 2: Superior for heavy wheel bearings that run hot frequently (briefly up to +220°C).

LGGB 2 and LGTE 2 — Environmental (EAL) & diagnostic tools

EAL greases: An airport platform with separated drainage understandably tolerates no chemical spill. LGGB 2 is biodegradable and environmentally friendly (low toxicity). The Ecolabel-certified LGTE 2 is made for 100% ‘total loss’ systems where grease loss is unavoidable.

SKF TLSD / LAGD single-point: The absolute top in automatic single-point lubricators, fitted with handy stoplight LEDs visible from all sides.

SKF eLube & Dialset: Calculates your ideal dosing and lets you keep close, proactive watch over every pump in the terminal from your smartphone (and from the warmth of your office).
